Due to its focus on social
change, most of MLF's productions are carried out in close interaction
with, and participation of, grassroot organisations. As much as possible,
MLF tries to produce documentaries on issues of social justice with
partners who are working with the issues. This is because MLF believes
that the primary users of the such films are the people who are working
for change at the grassroots. Simultaneously, MLF also produces documentaries
for television on subjects that are educational and of interest to a
general audience.
MLF uses these films extensively. All
of MLF's films have been screened to a wide range of audience in India
and the world, from grassroots communities, activists, students, television,
as well as in reputed documentary film festivals, both within the country
and worldwide. Screening, we feel, helps to raise, extend and enlarge
the scope of the debates on issues that the documentaries present.
Over the years, some of MLF's films have
been selected by film festivals and some have won some modest awards
too.
In 1999, Imagine Kalpana received
a Special Mention at the International Association of Women in Radio
and TelevisionI festival (lAWRT). The film was also screened on Doordarshan
in 1997, on the occasion of the 50th year of India's independence.
In the same year, A Journey Together won the Second Prize for the Over 40 minutes category at the New Delhi
Video Festival.
Beyond Monarchs and Merchants: A Space
for Public Television won the Silver Award at the WorldFest Houston
in 2003 in the Public Service category of the Film and Video Production
section.
Goa Under Siege has participated
in a number of reputed film festivals like Ökomedia, Mumbai International
Film Festival, Film South Asia and the Nord-Sud Festival.
The Story Tellers was screened
at the Film South Asia, Kathmandu, in 2004.

Freedom participated in Signs 2007, Kerala, Media Nord Sud, Geneva
