LISTEN TO THE WIND
Director: Kesang Tseten & Tsering Rhitar

English (subtitled), 31 min, 1999, Nepal
The setting is the Sherpa village of Khumjung, 3600 m above sea level, in the lap of Mt. Everest.
Dawa a quiet, gentle boy, learns about nature and life from his best friend, an old nomad with failing eyesight.
Dawa is apprehensive about going to a new school as he will have less time for his nomad friend who has expressed a desire to see the Kalma Metok, a rare white rhododendron of the higher pastures. The boy pledges to make it happen.
Other than the difficulty of finding the flower, Dawa is also bullied by a gang of boys, pressured by his parents to secure a scholarship and rejected by a girl who had befriended him. The boys then play a cruel prank on the nomad.
In the face of such tribulations, will Dawa rise above himself?
